Julianne Hough's New Cut/Color: An R+COLOR Transformation

The quest for a fresh, bold change led Julianne Hough straight into the talented hands of her longtime stylist Riawna Capri, co-owner of Nine Zero One salon in West Hollywood, California, who helped her usher in the new year with an exciting new look using R+COLOR and R+Co BLEU.

The Inspiration Behind the Transformation

“We wanted a bright, bold change for the new year, and that we did!” reflects Riawna, who says the decision to go for a significant chop had been brewing for months. “One day at Dancing with the Stars, it hit her—she was ready, I could feel it. We instantly started looking at the calendar to see when was best.”

Riawna says cutting a substantial amount of hair is a symbolic act—a way of releasing old energy, drawing parallels to the way crystals hold energy. Cutting off years' worth of hair is similar to letting go of accumulated energy, a process that can be both emotional and liberating. In Julianne’s case, however, there were no tears—only an exciting and energized feeling of embracing change.

The Vibrant R+COLOR Transformation

More than 300 foils with baby slices were expertly placed to create a soft, natural blonde from roots to ends. The vibrant color transformation was achieved using CHAIRLIFT Powder Lightener from R+COLOR, beginning with 5 volume MOMENTUM developer at the nape, gradually increasing to 15 volume and 20 volume as she moved toward the crown. The final touch involved toning the blonde to a bright and buttery shade using R+COLOR’s STELLAR Demi-Permanent Liquid 10.6/10V (Lilac) Lilac and 10.0/10N (Icicle).

Sleek Styling

To style Julianne's look, Riawna reached for R+Co BLEU, beginning first with F-Layer Deep Conditioning Serum pre-blow dry to serve as the perfect treatment for Julianne’s freshly colored hair as F-Layer works to replenish the protective lipid layer of the hair, locking in moisture and giving hair its natural smoothness, gloss and ability to reflect light. Following the blow-dry, R+Co BLEU Optical Illusion Smoothing Oil was used to ensure every strand gleamed with shine after being smoothed with a flatiron. To achieve a soft, slightly piece-y texture, R+Co BLEU Elastic Styling Pomade was the final touch.
