Its no Cactus

I have been a die hard Cactus fan for years and was so devastated when it was discontinued. Then they sent me an email saying I would be even happier with Labyrinth so I immediately ordered it the day it became available. Sadly at least for my hair this was not a winner. I have a sassy pixie and it made my hair flat and heavy. Not that I would discontinue use based on the scent alone either but this product reminds of the smell of preschool paste. Unfortunately I have no positives to say about this product even after using for over a month. My first disappointment from this company and I use many of their products. I dream of the return of Cactus .

I like it....

I need to use the Television Perfect Conditioner with it because I have fine thin hair that tangles.

But I love the texture it leaves my hair. I love the smell. It's hard to get out of the bottle. Like really hard.

I have to leave it turned upside down in the shower, but even then, I'm banging the heck out of it to get it to the lid to squirt. I wish it came in a liter so I could use a pump.

Doesn’t compare to Cactus

It’s…ok as a general use all-in-one shampoo. A satisfactory replacement for Cactus, it is NOT. With cactus (plus badlands dry shampoo paste) I was able to achieve body and piecy texture in my fine straight short hair. I was also able to go several days between shampooing. With Labyrinth (either with or without badlands) my hair quickly flattens, looking completely unstyled and limp. I usually have to wash daily when using labyrinth. I’m very disappointed with this product as the suggested replacement for Cactus. These products are expensive, and I was happy to spend the money on cactus because it was just so magical. Labyrinth just doesn’t provide any discernible styling benefit, so it’s not worth the cost.

Almost too powerful?

I underestimated the power of this product! Texturizing it does, almost too well?

Surprisingly appealing multitasker

Labyrinth, like all of R+Co's products, has a terribly seductive name and terribly seductive packaging (I congratulate the marketing and design teams on their diabolical ingenuity.), so much so that it overcame my tendency to shop hair care solely by its ingredient list and my strong skepticism about products that make claims to be the only thing you need (well, the only thing you need haircare wise; commodities always tacitly claim to be the only thing you need in general; that's their enchantment and also commodity fetishism 101). Although Labyrinth didn't quite answer my feverish fantasy of addressing all the needs of a head of fine, dense, low porosity hair with one Byzantine product, it *is* something quite special: essentially a cleansing conditioner that did not weigh down my very-prone-to-be-weighed down fine hair.

I don't much go in for "hero" ingredients--effectiveness is in how they work in formulation and their relative weights as much as anything--and often the most effective ingredients in a product are likely to be the boring, polysyllabic ones, which don't tend to vary much within a product category. The particular functions and quirks of any given shampoo or conditioner are likely to come down to the combination of surfactants (cleansing agents, among other things), emollients (smoothing, moisturizing, conditioning agents), and humectants (which draw moisture into the hair shaft) and the way these ingredients interact with your hair type and context.…
