Garren for Anna Sui NYFW SS27: Old-World Romance, Modern Texture

For Anna Sui Spring/Summer 2027, R+Co BLEU Founder Garren and his team explored a world of contrasting textures, creating hair that felt ethereal, eccentric and entirely individual to each model.

Designed to complement Anna Sui’s Wonderment collection, the hair played with the same sense of fantasy. Soft, airy waves and artfully disheveled lengths met controlled curls and delicate ringlets around the face, bringing together references to different eras without belonging entirely to any one of them.

For Garren, the starting point was the tension between those textures.

“We started looking through old Vogue magazines from the '60s and '70s, and we came up with this," Garren says. "I love the idea that it’s two textures. Everyone has been doing textured waves or all curls. Now we want to scramble it up, and say, why can’t you have wavy hair at the bottom and smooth hair at the top? It is kind of ethereal, kind of period, but in a modern way."

Rather than creating one uniform finish across the hair, Garren embraced contrast. Natural texture could be left untouched, while other sections were waved, shaped or curled. At the front, small, controlled ringlets brought a delicate, surreal quality to the face. Through the lengths, the texture became softer, airier and intentionally less precise.

“We’re going bohemian, angelica/grunge," he says. "The grungy part is where the bottom part of the hair is disarrayed and you know, the texture is like ethereal as you can see in the photos. It’s not all even. Ethereal and kind of a little eccentric."

The individuality of each model’s hair was central to the look. Instead of forcing every texture into the same finish, Garren chose R+Co BLEU products according to what the hair needed.

For finer hair, Ingenious Thickening Crème gave the lengths the substance needed to hold an airy wave. For curlier textures, Rebounce Hydrating Curl Glaze helped separate and define the natural curl.

At the crown and around the face, the texture shifted again. Small sections were curled to create controlled ringlets that contrasted with the looser movement below.

“Then the top section, I’m going to separate and use a curling iron to form wavy ringlets. On top of what I already used, I’m going to put a little bit of the Essential Blow Dry Tonic, and dry that into the hair at the same time as the triangle section at the top for controlled curls around the face,” he says.

The finished hair was intentionally difficult to place in a single era or category. Romantic but slightly undone. Delicate but eccentric. Old-world in feeling, with an unmistakably modern attitude.

“It’s ethereal, its fairytale but it has a nod to the old world with a modern and cool twist. We’re playing with lots of different textures," Garren says.

To recreate the Anna Sui SS27 hair, begin by prepping with R+Co BLEU Shampoo and Conditioner.

For finer hair, work Ingenious Thickening Crème through the lengths to build soft texture and volume. For curly hair, use Rebounce Hydrating Curl Glaze to separate and define the curls.

Apply Highest Volumizing Mousse at the root, then loosely blow dry. Using a ½-inch curling iron, create two rows of curls at the front of the hair to form the delicate, controlled texture around the face.

Through the bottom lengths, use a three-barrel waving iron in sections to create a smaller, irregular wavy texture. Once the hair is waved and curled, mist with Cult Classic Flexible Hairspray, lifting and airing out the strands so the curls can fall naturally.

Finish with Optical Illusion Smoothing Oil through the ends for shine.
