Brian Hickman's Modernized Bowl Cut
Brian Hickman of Nashville's Local Honey salon breaks down his technique for styling a modern, textured bowl cut.
Brian Hickman is one of the most sought-out haircutters in Nashville, Tennessee. Known for his transformative cuts and bespoke styling, the Local Honey creative director recently created this fringed undercut that he dubs a modern interpretation of a textured bowl cut.
“This is a softer version of the classic bowl cut,” says Hickman, who used a combination of clippers and shears on the sides for strength, and razor and shears on the top for softness.
While the hair was still wet, he applied MANNEQUIN Styling Paste from roots to ends for control, and misted ROCKAWAY Salt Spray in the crown for gritty lift.
“I love using ROCKAWAY at the scalp because you can layer it a few times for extra grit and to make the hair really messy-big,” he says. “This technique works best on shorter hair up to 5-6 inches long.”
He then diffused the product into the hair, reapplying ROCKAWAY in areas he wanted to enhance.
